When asked the question "Where does your meat come from?" most people would answer "A farm". That meat does come from a farm, in a sense. But the cruel reality is that 99% of meat comes from factory farms. The motion picture Babe is an example of how oblivious the general public is to animals raised for food. A real life Babe would not roll in the mud, feel sunshine on his back or even be able to turn around. A real life Babe would spent its life in a 2 ft. by 7 ft. cage, waiting to be executed. But it's not just pigs that have to endure this horrible treatment. Chickens on factory farms are among the most abused animals on Earth. If chickens are "free range", it doesn't mean they get to run around in a field before being slaughtered. It means they are stuffed in a dark shed with thousands of other chickens. At the slaughter house, chickens have their throats slit without any pain killers. The poor animals should be dead when they reach the "de feathering tanks", which are giant tubs of boiling water. But too often they aren't. Some of the birds are boiled to death in these tanks. If you really think about it, is your chicken dinner worth a life?
